Update: Progress of work: [link]

:la: I'm pretty much dead now. Today, I was skiing, running around the forest for photos, doing this... and I wasn't taking any time to rest. Finished at 1:01 AM, then at least half an hour needed to get everything working normally. My computer almost crashed (saving video, converting video. At the same time, resuming few processes, saving image as PNG and then resizing it...) One would not believe how much energy you need only to paint on COMPUTER. If you have to deal problem of recording, it takes a lot of energy, but that isn't the point so, before you get TL;DL:
Statue of Ice
Graphic Tablet: Trust TB-7300 (now running out of second pen fill, one more to go)
Software: GIMP 2.6.8 x64 (yes, that's still experimental version. Unlike later versions, it is working)
Used gimp default and custom brushes.
I've been using those color palettes a great deal.

Size up here: 1000x1500
Original size: 2000x3000 (100% is awesome at some places!)
Layers: 20
Time needed: A lot. 3 days, few hours each.
File: .png, 2MB

I believe that I have new record: 5 dragons (2 alive, 3 as icy statues) on one picture. 6 if we count the one carved in ice.

And I mean dragons, not creatures like wyverns or serpents which a lot of people falsely name as dragon.

:typerhappy: Story
There had been many rumors about hidden cave, a dragon lair, which doesn't seem to have much valuable things one could take but it is said to be extremely gorgeous to look at. Problem is, that people don't tend to go there. Mostly because the path had been forgotten for some time.

But certain group decides to check that out, talks of beauty underground. But they aren't aware that someone else had picked up that trail. They were followed and once in the cave, attacked.

They managed to defeat the attackers, and got an opportunity to look around. The rumors were more than true: the cave was a wonderful sight to behold, with three dragon statues, carved in ice and one more dragon, carved in the ice cliff behind.

However, they weren't aware they are being watched. But two pairs of eyes, watching them, remained hidden for the time the party was in the cave.
